Molly Dog: 1989-2003 In February, 1993, I had the fortune to welcome a new family member into our family. Someone who has, for the last 10 years, always been by Gloria and me, supported us 100% and never given us anything but the impulse to smile when we see her. Molly Dog (as she has been referred to on our Christmas Cards these last 10 years) was Gloria's service dog in the early days of our relationship. For 7 years she was able to assist Gloria with her everyday household activities (door answering, fire alarms, etc). These last three years, what with the many moves and regular ear infections, Molly was able to provide us with a companion that was always happy to see us. Her skills as a service dog faded away mostly because cueing into a new house is diffucult, and her hearing was failing. I find that strangely ironic. In early February this year, at the ripe old age of 14, Molly was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Though the window of her life was closing, you would have never guessed it by seeing her. Until her last day when we put her down, she was still as spunky as a puppy. I guess this is why letting her go was so difficult for Gloria and I. "Of the souls I've encountered in my travels, {hers} was the most... Human" Kirk once said. While Molly couldn't talk to us (though with her body language and barking: You might consider that talking :) ), she provided us nothing but great memories, warm feelings, and a great big smile when we think of her. We will miss her, but have many movies, pictures and memories that will allow us to include her in our lives forever. Goodbye, Molly Dog, and as we all smile and knock back a tear, we thank you.
